Howdy, y'all! Don't panic, the old posts aren't gone; I just moved them to an archive. You can still read them by clicking the link at the top of the page. You can leave a note here by using the form at the bottom of the page.

I've made as many corrections to the picture IDs as I've been given, and I've added a few pictures to the talent show page, which Paul Kistler reminded me was called "Close Encounters of the Musical Kind." (Remember that "Close Encounters" poster in Miss Crow's room?)

I'm also adding a "Miscellaneous Pictures" page. Y'all send me any pictures you have! You can mail them to me and I'll scan them or if you have a scanner you can email them. I'll put up anything from our elementary and junior high years. Does anyone have other teachers' class pictures?

Was the YMCA Biker guy Shannon Green? Paul Kistler remembered his name in the class picture. Thanks y'all for all the corrections. I feel so awful when I can't remember someone's name or when I misidentify them (how could I misidentify Jackie Allen as Pam Craft?).

Laura, As far as the Orange Blossom picture goes, I believe I had already moved up to the next league so I think that's my sister Linda. Top row starting at the left is Dora Garcia (Leticia's sister), Bridgett Clepper?, Kim Brown, Bobby Joe Spann (Dwayne's sister), Linda Parson (my sister), Tammy Christianson, Bottom row left is Marina Lopez, Melinda Ashley, Stephanie Donellan, Nicole Hatter?, and Kathy Childs. I'm pretty sure about most of them. Hope this helps! I can't believe how young my parents look in these pictures!!!

I went up in the attic and found a bunch of pictures from high school, but not the Brownie pictures I have in mind. I have no idea what happened to them. I also have our junior high yearbooks and will scan some fun pics from them.

Saw this in yesterday's Chronicle, p. A33:

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday for a former La Porte High School football player who was shot and killed this week in Louisiana.

Police in Baker, just north of Baton Rouge, are trying to determine a motive for the slaying of Paul Broussard Jr. A Baton Rouge man remained in jail, charged with manslaughter.

Broussard , 21, was shot in the parking lot of a Church's Fried Chicken restaurant where he and his father had stopped to eat.

Baker police Lt. Dave Almond said Paul Broussard Sr., a truck driver, had parked his 18-wheeler at the fast-food restaurant and gone inside while his son stayed in the truck's sleeper.

The younger Broussard got out of the truck and approached a car in the restaurant's drive-through lane. After talking to a passenger in the car, the driver of the car got out and fired several shots, hitting Broussard in the chest, Baker Police Chief Sid Gautreaux said. The victim, who was expected to play football at Mississippi State University this fall, died at a local hospital shortly afterward.

He had enrolled at Rust College in Holly Spring, Miss., and his father had picked him up there and was taking him to La Porte, police said. Manslaughter charges were filed against Cameron Letroy Emanuel-Dunn, 24, of Baton Rouge. He remains jailed in lieu of a $75,000 bond.

A wake for Broussard , who was an All District 23-5A second team defensive player in 1998, is scheduled for Saturday morning at Confrontation Church of God in Christ at 430 W. Main in La Porte. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. with burial at Twilight Cemetery in La Porte.

Hi, y'all! I've been out of town for most of June. My news is that I've started my Masters in Library Science. There is a program at the University of North Texas in Denton which allows you to take all of the classes online, so that is what I'm doing, but it is WORK!

How is everyone else doing?

Tammy, I'm happy to report that no one in my family in and around Houston was flooded. I was in Denton at the time-- the pictures really were amazing!

Okay, I have a question for everyone. What song(s) did Tim Jones do his Elvis Impersonation in our talent show? I have this fun idea of putting all the songs on the website here, and maybe making some CDs.

I was thinking perhaps it was Blue Suede Shoes, but when you said Hound Dog, I knew that was it! Thanks! But can you remember-- did he do both, or just one?

Cindy, I've never managed to scan any pics from the jr high yearbooks, but I intend to one of these days. If y'all have any pictures, send 'em!

Tammy, the truth is that I haven't listened to the radio since about 1987! I have fond memories of pop music growing up but I rarely listen to music at all anymore, because it's just noise and I like the quiet. But sitting down to listen to something, not just in the background, is different!

Anyway, I'm not even halfway through the CDs Dan made for me. I think the next CD has some Rush on it. The last one had quite a bit of Van Halen, and all of them have funny stuff mixed up in them, like the Muppets, Bob & Doug McKenzie, Cheech & Chong, etc. Ernie's "Rubber Duckie" had me standing up and singing out loud and scaring my cat!

Hi Laura, and all,

I hope all is well, came across your website today from an old bookmark (still spending much of my time procrastinating -- thank god somethings never change and you are here to help me!) So, even though i'm not from the elem class, i still recognize many names and thought I'd leave a note.

Laura, congrats on starting your new program. I met a couple of atty types at ut doing the same thing -- very interesting. Please drop me a line, and let's catch up.

Also, looking through the entries, I couldn't help but notice taht a lot of former lphs alum live in Austin and the surrounding area -- me too, i'm in austin. so, maybe we could have a mini reunion here. Laura, you could come visit for a weekend. :-)

i'd love to hear from anyone and catch up on what's going on with old buddies -- otherwise, i'm gonna have to work on this report i'm avoiding right now! Take care to all.

Wow, I haven't checked this guestbook for months, so I just saw Katrina's and Carey's notes for the first time! Hi, Katrina!! Hi, Carey!!

I'm no longer pursuing my MLS. I decided I didn't want to deal with academia and go to all that trouble just to get a job that would pay peanuts. I can get a much greater return for relatively little effort by practicing law, so I'm starting to practice again. I'm specializing in wills, trusts, and estates since there isn't exactly a whole lot of intellectual property in southeast Texas. I don't even have an office yet, but hey, one thing at a time!

I'll come to Austin anytime. I have family in Wimberley and San Marcos. We're having a family reunion in Wimberley at Thanksgiving and will probably be there about a week, so maybe I could come meet some of y'all for lunch? My brother lives in Austin and he is always running into people from La Porte.

I found an old Brownie picture that I've been searching for ever since I started this site. It's at my house (my mom was the troop leader) and we are gathered around the piano singing songs. I can identify Tammy Christiensen, Emily Delgado, and Shawna (?). I'll try to get it scanned and uploaded soon!

Hey, y'all, I have to brag a little! I got "promoted" this week this week to Associate at my law firm-- which means I get business cards and I'm on the letterhead now! Nothing else has changed (no raise yet) but it is an important symbolic thing, I think. It means I'm there to stay!

If any of you have any legal questions, my firm is general practice and we do a bit of everything. Feel free to email me or call me anytime at the office, 409-833-1196, if you need anything. If I don't know the answer, one of my bosses will!

The firm is Lindsay & Morgan in Beaumont.

Hello, Everyone. I am not sure if you remember me. We were not in the same classes in elementary school but I was in the choir and in Brownies with you. :-) I have been reading the archives and the rest of the guest list. So many people I remember from my childhood in La Porte. I have thought about several of you over the years. I was just thinking about Carey Rhoden and Kevin King on Sunday! :-) This must be the "time" to find long lost childhood friends. I was best friends with Alicia Byrd for years. Even after I moved. Then we lost touch and I was able to, finally, contact her last month. She is still in La Porte! :-)

I left La Porte in the 7th grade so I have no high school memories with ya'll. My daddy died in 1984 and my Mom moved us to Buffalo, Tx. (cow town U.S.A.) We BEGGED her to move back to La Porte but, the Lord had other ideas. As soon as I graduated high school I went to Jacksonville College on a choir scholarship. I still live in Jacksonville. I have not married although I was engaged for 1 1/2 years. I called it off.I home school my 8 yr. old nephew and teach Art for our home school group. I also teach Sunday School. I have written 2 children's books and am currently looking for a Literaray Agent to have them published. I am very happy and stay very busy. I am pretty much still the same. If you will recall I was a rather "chubby" girl in school. Now I am a BBW which means I am still fat but now I have "attitude" LOL.... :-)I did, finally, get over my shyness when I went to college. I joined Karate and that helped a lot. :-)

I did look at the scrapbook. Man, do I feel old!!! :-) I wanted to correct that my Daddy did not own the truck our Brownie troop is in. I am not sure who did. :-)

I do remember the talent show ya'll put on. What a great memory. :-)

In the choir picture I am the last one to the right on the 3 row. It is a little painful and a lot funny to see these old pictures. :-) Thank you for setting up this site. I do hope you are feeling much better. I was glad to read about your promotion.

I am sorry that I took up so much space in the notebook but it was such a "blast from the past" just to see the pictures. My brother, actually, found the site and sent it to me.

If anyone would like to e-mail me my address is wemprimo@cox-internet.com I would love to hear from you. God bless you all.

Wendy, no need to apologize for a lengthy note! I wish everyone would write so much! :-)

Great to hear from you. (I DO remember you!) This site is "slow" but it is also fun because every couple of months someone new finds it and enjoys the "blast from the past." I always wonder if others find it but don't post.

I may be repeating myself, but I believe that there is something really special about the group of people you grew up with. Not high school friends, but the folks who knew you back when you were too young to play head games and care much about whether you met anyone's expectations. It is refreshing to talk to each other again, because we can shed all of those grown-up mind games and conformity we acquired later, and be ourselves again. You can't bullshit someone you knew in the second grade! :-) I think Jane Austen said it best:

"I have always observed, that they who are good-natured when children, are good-natured when they grow up."

If, of course, they remain true to themselves.
